2019 Chardonnay Reserve Carneros Napa Valley

Each of the individual vineyard lots undergoes fermentation in French oak barrels, and a significant portion of the wine is fermented with its native yeast to enhance body and complexity. Portions of this wine also receive a secondary malolactic fermentation before aging more than a year in barrel on the yeast lees. With blending, we balance the vivid fruit intensity with elegance and finesse.

"For every vintage of our Chardonnay Reserve, we select the finest lots from our four estate vineyards in the Carneros region. This quintessential expression of cool-climate Carneros chardonnay offers concentrated flavors of creamy golden apple, ripe peach and baking spice, supported by pitch-perfect acidity."— Director of Winemaking Stephanie Jacobs

Fermentation

While they’re still cool from evening temperatures, we press the grapes as whole clusters, and ferment them by individual lots in French oak (36% with native yeast). Stirring of the yeast lees during 15 months of aging in French oak (35% new) enhances the wine’s texture and complexity. We then blend individual lots and reintroduce the blend into barrels to fully harmonize the finished wine.
