Cakebread Dancing Bear Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon, Howell Mountain, Napa Valley

About This Wine

Reflecting its characteristic mountain terroir, our 2005 Dancing Bear Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon displays fresh, high-toned floral aromas mingled with ripe, spicy, brambleberry fruit tones and earthy/truffle-y scents. (Julianne compares the aroma to walking through a forest after a warm summer rain). In the mouth, the wine is intense and concentrated, with a core of beautifully pure wild cherry fruit, yet its texture is supple and elegant. Beautifully structured and amazingly focused, it culminates in a long, savory finish full of rich dark chocolate and mineral tones. While Dancing Bear Ranch is tantalizingly delicious now, it will evolve beautifully in bottle over the next 8-10 years. Located on the rugged slopes of Howell Mountain, our Dancing Bear Ranch estate vineyard is planted on steep hillsides at elevations of over 1,800 feet.

WINE SPECTATOR – 2005 VINTAGE

June 29, 2015 – Their Howell Mountain cuvée, the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Dancing Bear Ranch, is a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Cabernet Franc. A superstar of the vintage, this wine has a nose of graphite scents, blackberry, blackcurrant, spice and underlying earthiness, but with super fruit and full-bodied opulence. Beautifully sweet tannins caress the palate, yet give the impression that even better days might be ahead. This wine has at least another 15 years of longevity, although committing infanticide at age ten is really no crime whatsoever. This is stunning!
